The reference modern rendering engine for Minecraft Java — multi-draw chunk meshing, vastly reduced CPU overhead
by CaffeineMC · LGPL-3.0
About
Sodium replaces Minecraft's chunk renderer with a modern OpenGL multi-draw pipeline. CPU overhead drops by roughly 90% versus vanilla and FPS jumps 2-3x on mid-range hardware. Since version 0.6 it integrates the Fabric Rendering API directly, retiring Indium as a compatibility shim. Pair with Iris for shaders. Sodium is Fabric-native. NeoForge users get its 0.5.x derivative through Embeddium.
