Minecraft Bedrock Edition 26.60 released on 27 October 2026, on every platform. For most players the headline is simple: the Ice Caves content that was only in the Preview app is now in the regular game, as an experiment you switch on per world. The rest is quality of life: a new way to place trapdoors, mushrooms that are easier to place, Realms that upload faster, and 92 bug fixes.

The ice caves content is still experimental. Experiments are switched on per world and cannot be switched off again for that world, and experimental worlds do not earn achievements. Try it in a new world, not your main one, and expect numbers to change before the drop leaves the experiment.
Ice caves without the Preview app
In October the ice caves drop was only playable in Minecraft Preview, which our Bedrock Preview 26.60 article covered in detail. With 26.60 it is part of the normal game:
- Create a new world.
- Under Experiments, turn on Drop 4 of 2026.
- Go to a cold biome and dig down.
What the experiment includes:
- Ice caves: a cave biome built from packed ice and calcite, with ores in pockets of stone and deepslate. Strays and frostbites spawn there.
- Ice crystals and icicles. Icicles break near light, except in the Nether.
- The frostbite: a zombie variant in snowy biomes. It hits you with the Freezing effect or throws ice balls, turns into a zombie underwater and is immune to Freezing. Husks and zombies stuck in powder snow turn into frostbites.
- Items: the frostbite spawn egg, ice balls (4 damage), Potions of Freezing (normal, splash and lingering) and the Arrow of Freezing.
- Freezing: damage over time, slower movement and lower jumps. Leather armor stops the damage but not the slowness, and mobs that are vulnerable to it take five times the freezing damage.
- Ice sounds for ice blocks.
To find the biome quickly, see how to find ice caves. Java players get the same drop in 26.4; the latest Java snapshot is 26.4 Snapshot 6.
Changes for everyone
Snappable trapdoor placement. Hold the place button with a trapdoor selected and every trapdoor you place keeps the same direction until you let go. Block interaction is paused while you place, so you will not open the trapdoor you just put down. Useful for long rows of trapdoors in farms and on builds.
Mushrooms. Brown and red mushrooms can now be placed on any block with a solid top face, whatever the light level. They still only spread in low light or on blocks like mycelium, so a mushroom farm works as before.
Fall damage at the water's edge. Landing on a solid block at the edge of water now deals fall damage. If you used the edge of a pool to survive a drop, aim for the water itself.
Item duplication fixed. The trick of duplicating items with a held stack and a full inventory no longer works.
Mobs. The drowned model now looks closer to Java. Baby cats get their own walking, sneaking and sprinting animations. Sheep no longer get stuck in their grazing animation.
World generation. Lush caves now take priority over dripstone and sulfur caves where they overlap. Abandoned camps in swamps no longer place mycelium.
Maps. Five explorer maps are renamed to say what they lead to; the Ocean Explorer Map, for example, is now the Ocean Monument Map.
Interface. The Minecraft font gains extended Latin, Cyrillic and Greek characters. Progress bars have better contrast, and a warning now appears when render distance goes above the level Vibrant Visuals supports.
Realms
Uploading and downloading Realm worlds is much faster. Realm owners can invite players who are not on their friends list and search by gamertag, and a Realms subscription that was bought but never linked to a Realm can now be recovered.
For add-on creators
- Script API:
@minecraft/server 2.11.0 is released, with many WorldClock APIs out of beta, and 2.12.0-beta is added.
- Time: the
/time command gains of <clock> subcommands, and time commands no longer need the Creator World Clocks experiment.
- Stricter validation: many entity components now reject invalid JSON in 1.26.60 and newer, so an add-on that loaded with sloppy data before can fail to load now. Test your packs.
- Structures: version 2
.mcstructure files can be zlib-compressed, and exports from the game use it.
- Dedicated servers: new settings for ticking area limits and targeted-actor range.
